CURRICULUM
The Parks School provides a highly motivating and imaginative Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum that enables children to learn in
the ways best suited to their individual needs.
Wherever possible, we work closely with local early years settings in order for children to access a dual placement, which combines specialist
input plus inclusion with peers in their own community. The curriculum brings together learning, care and therapy to develop children's
understanding of the world around them.
Our stimulating indoor and outdoor environment promotes independence and multi-sensory learning through play. We work with therapists and
specialist teachers to ensure that children's individual targets are incorporated into the daily routines of the classroom, hydrotherapy
pool, local community and one to one keyworker sessions.
We provide a total communication environment where children learn to make choices, communicate their needs and control their environment
through the use of switches and a range of signs and symbols.
Many children benefit from clear visual structures and defined environmental boundaries. The use of daily schedules helps them to understand
what will happen throughout the day, thus reducing their anxiety.
The staff continually and consistently model appropriate language and behaviours that enable children to develop communicatively,
emotionally, socially and cognitively.
We believe that the emotional well being off children is of the upmost importance. We aim to build self-esteem and confidence as a secure
basis for learning and for life.
